Wednesday’s newspapers suggest Everton are “close” to completing the signing of striker Cenk Tosun from Besiktas.

The Daily Express claim the two clubs have agreed a fee for the 26-year-old Turkey international, while the Daily Mirror say “hopes are rising” around Goodison after productive talks with Besiktas president Fikret Orman. The Liverpool Echo believe the Toffees will try to tie up any deal in time for Tosun to feature in Friday’s FA Cup third round tie at Anfield.

Elsewhere, the Express say Everton are weighing up a move for Arsenal’s Theo Walcott but add that the Blues face competition from West Ham United, Newcastle United and the England forward’s former club Southampton.

The Daily Mail believe Sevilla and Valencia are both in pursuit of Everton striker Sandro Ramirez, while the Mirror are among a number of nationals to report that Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho will miss Friday’s 230th Merseyside derby due to a thigh injury.

Finally, Sam Allardyce discusses the challenge of managing Everton in the Liverpool Echo, who also say Brendan Galloway could be about to return to Goodison Park from his loan spell at Sunderland.
