Jonjoe Kenny deliberated over his Christmas wishlist for all of five seconds – “three points”.
The Everton defender knew exactly what he wants from the Blues’ Boxing Day fixture at West Bromwich Albion – another victory to ensure their current run of form continues.
The Toffees head to the Hawthorns in their penultimate outing of 2017 and Kenny hopes to end the year on a high, starting with victory over the Baggies, and make it an enjoyable Christmas for both the players and fans.
“If you look at the squad we have top players,” he said. “It might have taken a bit of time to get going but we just needed a little bit of luck to go our way and when it did we have gone on a bit of a run.
“If you’re winning, everyone is happier, and it makes everything a lot easier. When the results aren’t going your way and things aren’t happening it is tough, but you have to stick together as a team and the wins will come, like they have done.
“But we have to go week by week. The Premier League is a tough league and every team is brilliant. You can’t go into any game relaxed, you have to go in ready to win, it doesn’t matter who you are playing. We have to go game by game and see where we come.”
Sam Allardyce allowed the squad Christmas Day to spend with their families, yet the festive period is a difficult one for players with games coming thick and fast.
But for Kenny, who has made 16 appearances since breaking into the side in September, he’ll happily make the sacrifice in order to maintain his first team place.
“It is difficult but at the end of the day it is worth it,” he added. “You give up a lot of your time for the game and your career - but I can think of anything else I want to do so for me it’s another week and another game.
“I did get to see my friends and family but we had a game Saturday against Chelsea and then there is West Brom on Boxing Day, so it was an early night on Christmas Day.
“I usually get a few days off around Christmas but it’s a busy schedule, the games are coming thick and fast but I can’t wait to get more games under my belt. I am loving it.”
