There is plenty of reaction to Everton's Wayne Rooney-inspired victory at Newcastle United in today's papers.

Rooney struck the only goal of the game in the north-east on Wednesday night to extend the Toffees' unbeaten Premier League run to a fourth match – and the Daily Telegraph hails the Blues' revival under new boss Sam Allardyce.

The Liverpool Echo praises the performances of Club-record buy Gylfi Sigurdsson and centre-back Ashley Williams at St James' Park, while Allardyce tells the same publication of his surprise at the speed of his side's turnaround.

Rooney's remarkable goalscoring record against Newcastle – the 32-year-old's strike last night was his 15th against the Magpies – is highlighted by the Daily Mail. And, back in the Echo, Academy graduate Rooney's stellar contribution to the Blues' efforts during the opening four months of the campaign is dissected.

The Daily Express says Everton Under-23 midfielder Liam Walsh could be poised for a switch to Championship high-flyers Bristol City, while in the Croydon Advertiser the Toffees are linked with a move for Crystal Palace left-back Patrick van Aanholt.
