Tyias Browning and Brendan Galloway were both key figures in Sunderland’s goalless draw against Championship table-toppers Wolves at Molineux on Saturday afternoon.
The defensive duo played for the Black Cats, with Browning completing the full match and Galloway entering the fray with 10 minutes to go as Sunderland put a stop to Wolves’ promotion charge.
Before Saturday, the midlanders had won every game since 28 October when they lost 2-1 to Queens Park Rangers. Sunderland’s form, on the other hand, had been quite the contrary, having won only two games all season.
The weekend draw was even more impressive considering the Black Cats had to play the last half an hour with 10 men after Lee Cattermole was sent off for two yellow cards in as many minutes.
Following the draw, Chris Coleman’s side remain in the relegation zone but are only one point off Bolton, who are in 20th.
Kieran Dowell was the victor as his Nottingham Forest side beat Bolton Wanderers 3-2 at the City Ground, a game that saw fellow Everton loanee Antonee Robinson start for the visitors. Both players played the full match, but it was Dowell who came out on top.
Matthew Pennington played the final 10 minutes as Leeds United won 3-1 away to QPR on Saturday, moving the Yorkshire side up to seventh.
Callum Connolly found himself on the losing side as Ipswich dropped to ninth in the Championship following a 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough, although he did play 90 minutes.
Joe Williams also had a disappointing Saturday as his Barnsley side lost 3-0 at home to Derby County, but, like Connolly, he played the full match.
In Belgium, Henry Onyekuru scored his ninth goal of the season as his Anderlecht side went down 3-1 at home to second-placed Charleroi. Both sides were looking to close the gap on Club Brugge who sit top but Charleroi took a 3-0 lead. As the game reached the final 10 minutes, Onyekuru managed to grab a consolation to leave Anderlecht in third.
In League Two, Conor Grant did not feature as Crewe went down 1-0 away at Cheltenham Town.
