Thursday’s newspapers heap praise on Wayne Rooney after he netted his first Everton hat-trick in the Blues’ 4-0 demolition of West Ham United.

The Academy graduate, 32, completed his treble with a stunning effort from inside his own half that the Guardian describes as a ‘goal of the season contender’.

Rooney himself tells the Daily Mail that the strike was “one of the best goals” of his career, while David Unsworth explains in the Liverpool Echo why the hat-trick hero was able to flourish in a deep midfield role against the Hammers.

The Daily Telegraph and Echo say Sam Allardyce, who was watching from the stands at Goodison, will soon be appointed Everton boss, while the Mail claim La Liga high-fliers Valencia could make an attempt to sign Toffees striker Sandro Ramirez on loan in January.
