Wednesday’s local and national newspapers claim Everton are “close” to appointing Sam Allardyce as manager.

The Liverpool Echo, Guardian and Daily Mail all suggest the 63-year-old is Goodison-bound, with the Daily Mirror hinting the former defender could be announced as Blues boss ahead of tonight’s Premier League game against one of his previous clubs West Ham United.

David Unsworth, who is in temporary charge of the Toffees, is also quoted in the Echo, saying the Club must look to bring in proven Premier League talents when the transfer window reopens in January.
