Skipper Says Blues 'Have No Excuses'

“There’s no excuses for the way we performed,” was the blunt assessment from Phil Jagielka after Everton’s 4-1 defeat at Southampton.

And the skipper insists the Blues must rebuild their confidence ahead of Wednesday’s crunch Premier League clash against West Ham at Goodison Park.

Jagielka said: “The way we performed first half wasn’t great but we managed to get away with it with Gylfi’s goal but then came out for five minutes (after the break) to sort things out but gave two goals away. Then the confidence just totally went.

“It’s difficult whenever you get beat but at the moment we seem to be shipping in too many goals. We’re trying but things aren’t going our way at the moment. Hopefully we can get some points back on the board on Wednesday.

“There’s no excuses for the way we performed today. We have players good enough to get a result but unfortunately too many players didn’t perform. Everyone’s feeling the hurt.”
