What The Papers Say – 13 November

Everton news is relatively thin on the ground today, with the sports pages primarily focusing on international football.

The Liverpool Echo reports on Belgium international Thomas Vermaelen telling DH in his homeland that Barcelona put the brakes on a potential summer move to Goodison Park for the defender.

The same paper analyses the Toffees' season so far and carries a comment piece on Gareth Southgate's decision to elevate Liverpool forward Dominic Solanke into his England squad, ahead of Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Three Lions boss Southgate talks in The Independent about the challengers for England's goalkeeping jersey and says Blues' number one Jordan Pickford has staked his claim for the position after an "excellent" performance against Germany on Friday night.

And former Everton centre-back Alan Stubbs is featured in the Daily Express, saying another England international, Michael Keane, is the future of the Toffees' backline.
