Phil Jagielka hailed the passionate Goodison crowd for helping Everton to show their character in the dramatic 3-2 victory over Watford.
The Blues looked to be heading for a ninth consecutive match without a win when the Hornets went 2-0 ahead through second-half goals from Richarlison and Christian Kabasele.
But Oumar Niasse's 67th-minute effort gave the Toffees hope and got the Grand Old Lady rocking. And Jagielka believes that was key to inspiring David Unsworth's side to a memorable comeback as Dominic Calvert-Lewin's leveller and Leighton Baines' injury-time penalty secured three precious points.
"It was edgy in the first half," admitted Everton's skipper. "The second half didn’t go quite to plan but we showed character. Unsy made some positive substitutions. Thankfully, Oumar got us straight back in the game and that got the fans involved which made a real difference towards the end.
"We were looking for a way back in. Thankfully, Oumar chased down a lost cause, there was a bit of confusion and, before you know it, it’s 2-1. It was nice for Dom to get on the scoresheet with a good header and then there’s the penalty. Thankfully we had the right person at the right time to slot it home.
"Hopefully things turn around now, not just with the points but with luck."
Jagielka revealed securing success for boss Unsworth made the victory all the sweeter. And with the result lifting Everton up to 15th in the Premier League, four points off eighth-placed Brighton, the centre-back called on his teammates to "knuckle down" and ensure this can be a platform to kickstart their campaign.
He added: "It was really important (to win for Unsworth). You want to see the table and for it to look as good as possible. We’ve put in a few decent halves for Unsy, unfortunately not for whole games, which included today as well. But thankfully we’ve got the three points he and his staff deserve. I can’t wait to get back.
"The three points is massive for us. It takes us out of where we don’t want to be for the next couple of weeks. We know things have just started and we need to knuckle down and make sure we get some momentum now."
