David Unsworth has confirmed Phil Jagielka, Leighton Baines and Wayne Rooney will all be available for Everton’s Premier League clash with Watford on Sunday.
Unsworth also revealed he is hopeful Michael Keane will be in contention for a place in his squad, after completing his first training session since overcoming an infection on Thursday.
The Blues host the Hornets at Goodison Park just three days after suffering defeat to Lyon - and consequent elimination from the Europa League.
Jagielka, Baines and Rooney all sat out the trip to France, but speaking at his pre-match press conference at USM Finch Farm, Unsworth says he looks forward to welcoming back the experienced trio for the weekend’s “big game”.
“[Jagielka, Baines and Rooney] will all be available,” said Unsworth. “Senior players are always important. Those three are all top players, with many, many appearances under their belts.
“We’ve got a few young players in and around the squad and they’re vitally important for those players, too.
“Any time you go into big games - and Sunday is a big game - you always need your senior players who you can rely on and trust.
“Michael Keane trained yesterday and he’s going to train with us [on Friday afternoon] and we’ll see how he comes through that session but fingers crossed, he should be okay.”
Former defender Unsworth also provided a reassuring update on Cuco Martina, after the 28-year-old defender was taken off on a stretcher against Lyon following an awkward fall.
“He’s fine. He had his x-rays and his scans and they all came back clear,” added Unsworth. “He was a little bit dizzy, tired and concussed on the way home, but he’s fine. We managed to get him back to us and he travelled back with us [on Thursday night].
“He’ll probably be out for a couple of weeks now as a precaution.
“He was in great hands last night, with the doctors and medics - they looked after him really well and we thank them for that. And, thankfully, he’s fine.”
