Speculation regarding who Everton will appoint as their next manager continues in Tuesday’s newspapers.

In the Daily Express, it is claimed Burnley boss Sean Syche has been targeted with an approach expected in the next 24 hours.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher believes Dyche has to take the “next step” and accept any job offer from Everton, should they come calling.

However, the Burnley Express reports suggestions the Blues are set to make an approach for Dyche imminently are wide of the mark.

Sam Allardyce, who retired from management at the end of last season, is ready to perform a U-turn if Everton come calling. Asked about the role, he said: “Who knows? I’d have to consider that if that phone call happens.”

Elsewhere, former Everton forward James McFadden has revealed Celtic tried to sign him on loan from Motherwell in 2003 - before eventually joining the Toffees in a permanent deal.
