There is reaction to Everton’s Carabao Cup defeat to Chelsea in Thursday’s newspapers.

David Unsworth - and the wider media - have praised Beni Baningime after an impressive senior debut at Stamford Bridge.

The 19-year-old midfielder top scored in the Liverpool Echo’s ratings with an 8/10.

Elsewhere, in several of the national newspapers, it is reported that Unsworth is set to meet with Chairman Bill Kenwright and major shareholder Farhad Moshiri on Friday to discuss his future at the Club.

Antonio Rudiger, who netted Chelsea’s opener against the Toffees on Wednesday night, admits his header was “a fluke” in the Daily Star.

And, finally, the Irish Independent covers the return of James McCarthy, describing the timing of the midfielder’s comeback as “perfect”, with just a fortnight until the first leg of the Republic’s World Cup play-off against Denmark.
