A local children’s football team experienced a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity recently when they lined up with their Everton heroes at the first-team annual team photo day.
The Stanfield Football Club Under-8s were invited to be a part of the day courtesy of official Club partner Umbro, who kitted out the entire team in the full commemorative range that was launched earlier this year to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Goodison Park.
Their special day out at USM Finch Farm not only included being a part of the team photo but they also joined first-team players for their official headshots and got to have a kickaround with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Mason Holgate and Joel Robles - before an impromptu penalty shootout with the Spanish goalkeeper - who made those who didn’t score complete five push-ups each!
There was also a surprise in store for Blues midfielder Tom Davies when he was introduced to his very own ‘mini-me’ Anthony, who is a Season Ticket holder in the Park End, ahead of the official photo being taken.
The football team was nominated by Everton in the Community Kicks Development Coach, Lee McArdle, who works with the team every week and could see what it meant to them on the day: “They’ve all been buzzing about meeting the team and being in the team photo and just from looking at all their faces I can see they’ve loved every minute.
“We’ve got so many big characters in the group but it’s safe to say we had a few starstruck moments, especially when Wayne Rooney just came and joined them for a kickabout. A big thank you to Umbro and the Club for their new kit and for making the day possible for them.”
There is currently an offer running on the commemorative kit with free shorts available for every shirt purchased, the full range is available online at evertondirect.com or in store at Everton One and Everton Two.
