Oumar Niasse insists he always believed he could enjoy moments at Everton just like the one he savoured at Goodison Park against Bournemouth.
The Senegal striker stepped off the bench to net twice and help the Blues come from behind to defeat the Cherries, who had led thanks to Joshua King’s opener.
In doing so, the Senegalese frontman earned plaudits from his manager, Ronald Keoman.
Niasse himself says he intends to keep on making the most of the first team opportunity he has been given, and was pleased to add two more goals to his midweek strike against Sunderland.
“It is a great moment for me at Everton,” he said. “I have been waiting for that moment for a long time.
“I always believed I would have moments like that here. I have kept fighting. Every time there was a difficult time for me, I always tried to do my best.
“I didn’t sign for another team – I signed for Everton. So even if I didn’t have the chance at the beginning, now the coach has given it to me and I have to take it with both hands. I am thankful for that, but I know I have to keep going, keep working hard.”
It was fellow substitute Tom Davies who teed up Niasse for his brace. First, the youngster’s incisive pass beautifully picked out the striker as he darted into the box, allowing him to arrow a drive past Asmir Begovic.
Then Davies’ deflected shot fell kindly for Niasse to bundle home from a yard out.
The striker was full of praise for both his young teammate and the rest of the players for their will to overturn an early second half blow and earn victory.
“Tom is a good player,” he added. “He is a young kid and I think he can do really well. I know him from playing with the Under-23s. I know how he plays and how he likes to pass it to me.
“We showed really good character as a team. Down 1-0 at home, having lost three games in a row, it was very difficult. But the confidence is back and we want to keep it for as long as we can.
“We have quality in the team. We have had a bad start in the league but after the win in the week, we have got another one so I am happy for the team now. Hopefully this game can start a good run for us.”
