Turner Named New Ladies Captain

@Everton

A “proud” Dan Turner is looking forward to leading Everton Ladies as the Club’s new captain, starting with the Merseyside derby against Liverpool on Friday.

The popular wing-back takes over from Michelle Hinnigan, who recently left the Blue Girls, and will don the armband officially for the first time when the Toffees take on their fiercest rivals live on BT Sport.

Turner, who has been at the Club for 10 years, admitted she was honoured to be asked to skipper the side and is relishing the opportunity.

“I’m delighted,” she told evertontv. “I’m very honoured to be chosen. This club means a lot to me, it’s been my home for over 10 years so I’m absolutely honoured and proud to be the new captain.

“In pre-season, (coach) Andy (Spence) said that I might be up for it but he’d see how it went during our friendly games and see how I took on the duties.

“It makes you a bit more responsible and a bit more vocal on the pitch. But it’s not going to change me too much as a person - I’m not going to all of a sudden start shouting at everyone! That’s not me. It’s added extra responsibility but it’s not going to change me too much.

“Obviously I’ll be captain for the first time in the derby. There is no bigger game to start with but I’m really looking forward to leading the team out. I’m really excited, and hopefully all my family are there in the crowd so it will be a real proud moment for them as well.”

G Gabs Turner

Defenders Georgia Brougham and Gabby George, who have been named vice captains, will support Turner in her new role.

The 25-year-old is pleased to have the backing of the pair as well as the rest of her teammates and is looking to maintain the positive team spirit amongst the squad.

“Georgia and Gabby are two players who are more vocal than me and probably have more of an opinion than me,” added Turner. “It is certainly good to have them alongside me and on board, and I am looking forward to working with them.

“It is brilliant to have the backing of the players. We’re a very tight group, and we’re creating a really good team spirit.

“All the girls were fully supportive of me and also for Georgia and Gabs as vice captains. We’ll all work together and do what is best for the group.”
