Gylfi Sigurdsson says Everton’s Carabao Cup third round tie against Sunderland could not come soon enough as the Blues bid to get back to winning ways.
After visiting Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday, it has been another quick turnaround for Ronald Koeman’s troops as attentions switch to the first domestic cup competition of the season.
The Toffees have already felt the extra demands that come with competing in the UEFA Europa League but, after a run of four consecutive defeats, Club-record signing Sigurdsson says the players are champing at the bit to get back in action.
“Of course, you want to get the next game in as soon as possible,” he told evertontv. “We have had a tough start to the season, but it is a long season ahead and if we can turn it around quickly then, hopefully, we can move past this.
“When we get the win, things will start to look a little bit better. And then we need to keep going after that.
“The next four or five games are very important for us. We want to make sure we get into the hat for the next round, then we have a very important game in the league [against Bournemouth] on Saturday.
“We have to make sure this week is a good one.”
