New Ladies signing Courtney Sweetman-Kirk is looking forward to linking up with fellow striker Claudia Walker.
The 26-year-old signed for the Blue Girls for an undisclosed fee after a goal-laden three-year spell at Doncaster Rovers Belles. In fact, her final competition for the Belles saw her top the WSL 2 Spring Series scoring charts with nine goals.
Walker, meanwhile, was second on that list with seven, and Sweetman-Kirk is hoping the pair can form a formidable forward line for the Toffees.
“It is definitely an exciting prospect to link up with the forwards here,” she told evertontv. “You look at the goals Claudia scored in the Spring Series – she was second behind me in the scoring table, so there is going to be a lot of firepower there. Hopefully we can terrorise a lot of defences.
“I am definitely looking to compliment the strikers in the group. It is a very strong squad here and I know I will have to work and train really hard to get into the team. I am taking nothing for granted.”
Sweetman-Kirk could potentially make her Everton debut in next Friday’s Merseyside derby against Liverpool.
Having regularly scored against the Blue Girls in the past, she is hoping to hit the ground running for her new club and intends to impress the watching Evertonians.
“It is a massive derby but I love playing in big games and high pressure games,” she added. “I’m sure if I can score in that game it will help get me liked by the fans, players and staff really quickly! So hopefully I can put the ball in the back of the net in that one.
“I’m quite pacey, and to be honest a nuisance. I’m just a pain to play against I would like to think, so hopefully I can make a nuisance of myself as an Everton player.
“Hopefully with the move I am putting it right now and scoring for the Blues instead of against them, and I can carry on scoring and put the ball in the right net this time!”
