Dominic Calvert-Lewin marked his England Under-21s debut with a goal to earn the Young Lions a 1-1 away draw in Holland.
Fresh from helping England Under-20s win the the World Cup in the summer, Calvert-Lewin and fellow Everton teammates Jonjoe Kenny, Kieran Dowell and Ademola Lookman were all handed maiden outings for Aidy Boothroyd’s side.
It was Lookman who provided the assist for Calvert-Lewin to open the scoring on 20 minutes, before senior-capped Bart Ramselar responded 10 minutes later to ensure the hosts would take a share of the spoils.
The two other Toffees were also heavily involved, with Dowell twice going close with long-range efforts and Kenny clearing off the line late on.
A point apiece means the two nations will both have ambitions of topping Group 4 and sealing progress to Italy and San Marino in 2019.
Elsewhere, Nathan Broadhead came off the substitutes’ bench for the final 26 minutes of Wales’ 3-0 win over Switzerland in a qualifier for the same competition.
And finally, Michael Keane was an unused substitute for the senior England side as Gareth Southgate’s recorded a 4-0 win over Malta in a 2018 World Cup qualifier.
