Carabao Cup Game Details Confirmed

Everton’s home clash with Sunderland in the third round of the Carabao Cup will be played on Wednesday 20 September, with kick-off set for 7.45pm.

Confirmed ticket information will be announced on evertonfc.com in due course.

The fixture could see former Blues Darron Gibson, Aiden McGeady, Bryan Oviedo and James Vaughan return to Goodison Park - but defenders Brendan Galloway and Tyias Browning, who are both on loan at the Stadium of Light, are ineligible.

The tie could also allow goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to line up against the club he left when moving to Everton earlier this summer.

The Blues have previously met Sunderland in the League Cup on two occasions, most recently in November 1998 when former Toffees midfielder Peter Reid was in the opposition dugout as a manager for a fourth round tie at Goodison Park and saw his side triumph 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Our only other meeting in the competition was also at home in October 1967, when two goals in the first five minutes from the great Alex Young were not enough to prevent Everton going down to an eventual 3-2 third round defeat.

Everton’s last contest with Sunderland was a 2-0 Premier League win at Goodison in February this year, with goals coming either side of the break from Idrissa Gana Gueye and Romelu Lukaku.
