What The Papers Say - 22 August

There are reports and reaction to last night’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City in Tuesday’s newspapers.

Manager Ronald Koeman says there were plenty of positives to take from the game at the Eithad, but was disappointed by his side’s reliance on the long ball.

City boss Pep Guardiola, meanwhile, hailed Everton’s defence as “top quality”.

Koeman has confirmed he hopes to have forward Sandro Ramirez, who has missed the past two games with a heel injury, available for Thursday’s second leg against Hajduk Split.

Elsewhere, the Blues boss says he wants two more signings before the end of the transfer window, with a left-footed defender and a striker on his wanted list.

Wayne Rooney is said to be planning talks with England manager Gareth Southgate as speculation continues regarding a recall to the national side.

And finally, it is claimed Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Toffees midfielder Ross Barkley.
