What The Papers Say - 21 August

Ronald Koeman tells Monday’s Daily Express he is happy with the mix of youth and experience he has been able to bring to Goodison Park this summer.

Koeman made Iceland international Gylfi Sigurdsson his eighth acquisition of the window last week and believes the Blues are now better equipped to cope with the demands of both domestic and European action.

However, Sigurdsson’s capture may not be the last before the deadline, with Koeman admitting to the Liverpool Echo that events between now and 31 August are “unpredictable”.

The Echo also study Wayne Rooney’s record of 11 career goals against Manchester City ahead of tonight’s visit to the Etihad Stadium, while Koeman tells the Guardian it will be tough for his side to keep a clean sheet against Pep Guardiola’s attack-minded outfit.

The man responsible for keeping City out, Jordan Pickford, explains to the Echo why Everton can lay down a marker by beating the Citizens, and the same paper points to rumours the Toffees are keeping tabs on Bristol City's 24-year-old midfielder Bobby Reid.
