Sevilla will provide the perfect end to Everton’s preparations for the Premier League season, says Jordan Pickford.
The Blues complete their summer warm-up schedule with the visit of the La Liga side to Goodison on Sunday (3pm kick-off).
Ronald Koeman’s men have already notched friendly victories against Kenyan champions Gor Mahia in Tanzania and FC Twente in Holland, whilst drawing 1-1 at Belgian club KRC Genk.
Added to that have been two competitive matches in Europe, the Toffees seeing off MFK Ruzomberok 2-0 on aggregate over two legs to progress to the playoff round of the Europa League.
Up next are Sevilla, five-time winners of the Uefa Cup/Europa League in the past 11 years and one of Spain’s most respected outfits.
‘Los Rojiblancos’ finished fourth in La Liga last season and boast a squad filled with talent, including Jesus Navas who re-signed for his boyhood club last week.
With Everton hosting Stoke next Saturday 12 August for their Premier League opener, Pickford believes Sevilla are the ideal opponents for the Blues to test their mettle.
“It’s a friendly against a very good team in Sevilla and one that will help us in the best way possible for Stoke,” said the keeper, who signed from Sunderland this summer for a potential Club-record fee rising to £30million.
“They have some top-quality players and are one of the top sides in La Liga and that’s going to be important in further preparing us for the Premier League.
“We’ve already played two European matches which will hopefully give us that competitive edge. Now we’ve got another test but it’s what we need as a group.”
Tickets are still on sale for Sunday’s clash, which will see Everton wear a retro kit as part of the commemorations to mark 125 years of playing at Goodison Park.
Tickets are priced at £20 for adults, £10 for 65+/Under-25s and £5 for Under-18s. To purchase, click here.
You can also buy tickets on the day of the match but please arrive early at Goodison.
