Bassala Sambou joked that he only has himself to blame for the high intensity of the Under-23s’ pre-season training camp in Spain.
The Premier League 2 champions are in La Manga until Sunday, with boss David Unsworth and his coaching staff using the sweltering conditions to help the squad hit peak fitness.
Having signed for the Blues 12 months ago from Coventry in time to go on the young Blues’ pre-season camp to a different part of Spain, 19-year-old Sambou had made the mistake at the start of this week to compare the two trips.
“It’s so tough - and I’ve got myself to blame for it by saying last season was easier than this time!” the striker told evertontv.
“We did extra runs today, which were ridiculously hard - honestly one of the toughest ones I’ve ever done, but it’s all good for us.
“This pre-season has been so hard so far, but it’s preparing us for the coming season so we’re taking it step by step and we’re doing well.
“The main thing about pre-season is to get match fit. All the boys have been doing well, we’ve been great together as a team and we’re pushing onwards now until the next game.”
