Boris Mathis spoke of the “honour” at signing for Everton and excitement at the opportunity of working with Under-23s coach David Unsworth after signing a two-year contract with the Blues.

The young French striker, 19, will link up the reigning Premier League 2 champions as a free agent after leaving Metz.

A product of Lyon’s academy, Mathis joined Metz in 2015 and made his professional debut for the Ligue 1 outfit in April 2017.

“I am very happy and honoured to sign for Everton,” he told evertonfc.com. “It is a great club and I have always liked English football and the Premier League.

“I have followed Everton from France. The Club has some great players and I’m very excited to become part of it.

“My first impressions have been very good. I like the movement and the intensity of the players. Everyone has also been very welcoming to me as well, which has been nice.

“David Unsworth is a very good coach. Of course, he played in the Premier League and I can already see how good he is.”

Known for his pace and technical ability, Mathis revealed his ultimate goal is to one day play under Ronald Koeman in the first team.

“My dream is to play for the first team here,” he added. “Ronald Koeman is a huge figure, not only as a coach now but his reputation as a player speaks for itself as well.

“I want to play in the Premier League for Everton.”
