Jordan Pickford and Mason Holgate played the full game as England Under-21s recorded a 3-0 victory over Poland to book their place in the European Championships semi-finals.
The Blues duo both impressed at the back, helping Aidy Boothroyd’s side to a second clean sheet in three group games as the Young Lions reached the last four of the competition for the first time in nine years.
In front of a 15,500-strong, partisan crowd in favour of their opponents, England took the lead when Leicester City’s Demarai Gray fired home inside six minutes, capping an attack started by Toffees custodian Pickford.
Norwich City’s Jacob Murphy tapped in with 20 minutes remaining after bright work from Gray to double the advantage, before Poland were reduced to 10 men and Chelsea’s Lewis Baker sealed an impressive victory with a late penalty.
Pickford, Holgate and the rest of the Under-21s can now look forward to a semi-final clash in Tychy on Tuesday.
They are set to leave their training base in Kielce on Friday to set up camp in Krakow, the location of next week’s final.
