Rom Equals Dixie's Record

Welcome, Marco!

Everything you need to know about the new boss here.

With his turn-and-finish against Burnley on Saturday, Romelu Lukaku matched an Everton Club record set by legend Dixie Dean in 1934.

The Belgian has now netted in nine consecutive home matches, equalling Dean’s feat from 83 years ago.

Lukaku’s scoring run started back on January 2 when Everton beat Southampton 3-0 at Goodison.

The striker’s second-half strike against the Clarets was his 24th Premier League goal of the season and he is four clear of Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane in the race for the Golden Boot.

Ronald Koeman was once again full of praise for Lukaku and believed that the goal displayed all his qualities - power, pace and composure.

“He’s amazing,” beamed the Everton boss. “He’s working hard and will always get chances to score.

“Burnley defended well today against Rom but in one split-second he got some space and showed that he is a great finisher.”

Saturday’s 3-1 win temporarily lifted Everton up to fifth in the Premier League table, above Manchester United and Arsenal who have games in hand.

“The goal now is to give some competition to the teams around us,” added Koeman. “We have the same points as Manchester United and we have three more points than Arsenal.

“The realistic situation [becomes clear] when we play the same amount of games but we know that if we finish the season strong then everything is possible.”
