Ronald Koeman believes one of the reasons behind Everton’s climb up to sixth in the table is the team’s ability to share the goals around.

Romelu Lukaku leads the Premier League charts having hit the target 21 times but the Blues have also been able to distribute duties around in the final third in recent months.

After the defeat at Watford in December, Koeman challenged his players to contribute with more goals.

The squad has responded to the manager’s request and in the 4-0 victory over Hull City on Saturday, Dominic Calvert-Lewin became the 15th different scorer for Everton in the league this term - more than any other club.

“This is what you like in the team,” Koeman praised. “We know with Rom we have a scorer in the team but you need more goals from midfielders and wingers, even defenders from set-plays.

“If you score more goals from more players, then it makes it easier.”

Koeman was particularly happy with Calvert-Lewin’s encouraging performance in the 4-0 victory over the Tigers.

The former Sheffield United man, in only his second Everton start, tapped in Tom Davies’ cross to set the Toffees on their way.

Having been handed chance, Koeman felt Calvert-Lewin seized it.

“Kevin [Mirallas] was not available and we needed to make a change in the team,” added the manager. “Dominic had been working well and is back from his ankle injury. He knows how to play out of that position on the left-hand side and showed his quality.

“He is 20 and I know that to develop young players you need to give them a chance. He took it - he scored the first goal and for 55-60 minutes he did really well.”
