Jags Driven By Positive Season

Phil Jagielka has called on Everton to finish a positive season in style - starting with another home victory against Hull City this weekend.

With 10 matches left to play, the Blues find themselves within two points of sixth-placed Manchester United in the Premier League table - albeit having played a game more - and having lost just once in 11 league outings since Boxing Day.

Ronald Koeman’s men are also on a run of five successive league wins at Goodison Park and have been beaten only once at home in the competition all season.

Victory against the Tigers on Saturday would see Everton jump ahead of Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United into the top six, with the Red Devils not set to face Middlesbrough until Sunday.

And Jagielka is keen for the Toffees to keep up their good form against a side who, while rejuvenated under new boss Marco Silva, have amassed just five points on the road this term.

“It’s going to be a big game just before the international break,” the Club skipper told evertontv. “We need to make sure we pick up as many points as possible in the run-in, especially at home. We need to try to put a bit of pressure on the people above us.

“Obviously we had a great start, we then had a bit of a dip, but ever since then I think it’s been a positive season.

“We’d have probably liked to have gone a little bit further in the cups but the atmosphere and the way everything is getting changed, the development of the Club on the whole, is great.

“Of course, all that doesn’t matter if the football’s not right but, at the moment, the football’s doing a pretty good job as well.”
