Morgan Schneiderlin believes he and Idrissa Gana Gueye have the potential to become the best holding midfield partnership in the Premier League.
The Frenchman is already enthused by the on-field understanding he has built up with Gana since joining from Manchester United in January and the Senegal international's return from the Africa Cup of Nations.
Statistics show that the two players are amongst the best tacklers in English football.
Asked whether they could become the most influential double act in that part of the pitch, Schneiderlin, speaking in a live Facebook interview, said: “That’s our aim. For the first two games together against Middlesbrough and Sunderland we felt good together.
“He wants to get the ball back and he wants to link up the play and I like that.
“He’s a very good player who has everything and I’m relishing playing alongside him.”
In the last home match against Sunderland, Gana netted his first goal for Everton and marked the occasion by running over the home dugout.
Schneiderlin has yet to break his Everton duck and asked what he will do to celebrate when he does, the Frenchman said: “Hopefully we will see that very, very soon.
“I don’t really have a celebration because I’m not used to scoring goals every weekend. I will see what is happening in the game, whether it’s a last-minute winner or it’s in a 4-0 or 5-0. I will see and try to surprise you!”
