January Awards For Davies

Tom Davies has been rewarded for an outstanding January by being named the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month and Match of the Day’s Young Lion of the Month.

The 18-year-old Academy graduate started every game as the Blues enjoyed a 100 per cent record in the Premier League.

Davies also netted his first professional goal against Manchester City, an effort that saw the midfielder run from inside his own half before coolly chipping over Chile international Claudio Bravo.

Sandwiched either side of that strike were two assists, first for Romelu Lukaku in the 3-0 home win over Southampton and one for Seamus Coleman to secure a 1-0 away victory at Crystal Palace.

Fans were invited to vote in an online poll to determine the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month winner, with Davies beating Alexis Sanchez, Dele Alli, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Harry Kane and Peter Crouch to the gong.

He said: “It’s a great feeling to win these awards and hopefully there are many more months like it in the future. It’s not a bad list of people to beat but I have to keep it up now! I have to thank to the people who voted for me, I really appreciate it.

“It was a good month for me but I certainly didn’t expect anything like this. We’ve just got to keep the run we’re on going now and with the way we’re playing I’m confident we can do that and get more points on the board.”
