Gabby George insists Everton Ladies intend to go as far as possible in the FA Women’s Cup this season.
The Blue Girls kick off their campaign on Sunday when they face Women’s Premier League side Brighouse Town at the Duel Seal Stadium in the third round.
George is no stranger to Cup success having played in the 2014 final against Arsenal at Stadium mk in Milton Keynes aged just 17, and hopes for more of the same this year.
“We want to go as far as we can in the competition,” she told evertonfc.com
. “In my first season at Everton we got all the way to the final. Unfortunately we lost that day but it was a great experience. It was a chance for me to learn so much by playing against one of the best players in the world in Kelly Smith.
“Getting to an FA Cup final is one of the biggest games you can play in at club level. We would love to replicate that this season and go all the way but we will take each game as it comes.”
In the way of the fourth round are Brighouse Town, who reached the third round stage with a 4-3 win over Long Eaton.
But George stresses the squad are itching to return to competitive action, and welcome a tough outing against a side already in mid-season.
“I’m excited,” she added. “The last competitive game we played was at London Bees back in early November. That was a long time ago so I can’t wait to get back out onto the pitch.
“Any game in the FA Cup is going to be tough and you know anything can happen. It is a harder game because it is away. They’ll have a good crowd there because they are facing a WSL side. It’s a big fixture for them so I’m sure there will be plenty of fans there, getting on our back and things like that!
“I’m sure Brighouse will give us a good game but hopefully we can go out there and perform like we know we can. We feel ready to go.”
