New signing Anton Donkor could make his debut for Everton Under-23s against Manchester United on Monday evening.
The 19-year-old forward, signed on loan for the rest of the season from Wolfsburg last week, is expected to be in the squad that travels to Leigh Sports Village (7pm kick-off).
“Anton has come through the ranks at Wolfsburg,” said coach David Unsworth. “He’s a player who we have been tracking for a while. He’s a left winger but can play down the right as well and through the centre. He’s got great attacking qualities - good pace and is very powerful. We are delighted to have him with us.
“Potentially he could be involved on Monday. He has trained with us and he looked good - he looked strong. He tells me he played a game last week so, fitness-wise, he should be fine.
“He just needs to settle down now. He speaks great English which is a great bonus so there should be no language problem. He seems a really nice boy and I’m looking forward to working with him until the end of the season.”
Everton Under-23s head into Monday’s match four points clear at the top of the Premier League 2 table.
“It’s a high-profile game,” Unsworth added. “I’ve known Nicky Butt for a while now and he has taken control of the [Manchester United Under-23s] team and done really well. We played together for England at youth level.
“I’ve watched them a couple of times live and Nicky has got them going. Manchester United have done really well over the years producing players and being successful at this level. It will be a really tough game and a great match for Anton to come in and show what he is all about.
“United have got quality players but so have we. It’s got the makings of a great game.”
