Ronald Koeman is optimistic Leighton Baines will be able to shake off a rib problem in time to play against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The manager, speaking on Thursday afternoon, revealed that the defender is his only fresh concern from the squad he had available for the 4-0 victory over Manchester City.
“Leighton is struggling a little bit with his rib but normally he would be available for the weekend,” Koeman said.
“Otherwise we are the same as last week. The long-term injuries are to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Mo Besic and Yannick Bolasie.”
Koeman was also asked about the Everton goalkeeper situation.
Joel Robles has started the team’s past five matches during Maarten Stekelenburg’s period on the sidelines with a leg injury.
The Dutch keeper was named on the bench against Manchester City last weekend and is now battling to regain his place in the team after fully recovering from the problem he sustained in the Merseyside derby almost a month ago.
“He [Stekelenburg] is fully fit,” Koeman said. “I don’t [want to] say anything about this because last week Maarten Stekelenburg was still not 100-per-cent fit to start the game.
“Yes, he is now 100 per cent but that’s a decision we need to make.”
