Boss Welcomes Pennington Return

Ronald Koeman has welcomed the return to fitness of Matthew Pennington.

The young defender suffered a hamstring injury in the pre-season Dresden Cup tournament out in Germany but has now returned to full training.

Koeman explained that the next step for Pennington will be a spell gaining match sharpness with the Under-23s.

“We spoke and said that when he is back fit he would start with the Under-23s,” he told evertontv. “There it is a lower level with a lower intensity.

“When he goes through that process and is ready, he will be back involved with the first team.

“We are looking forward to seeing him because he was out for a long time. Everybody knows that he is a young player who needs to improve and the best way to do that is to show your qualities on the pitch.”
