Young Lions Bow Out Of Euros

Everton duo Jonjoe Kenny and Ryan Ledson are heading back to Merseyside after England Under-19s were eliminated from the European Championships following a 2-1 defeat against Italy.

Kenny played the full 90 minutes at left-back while Ledson was an unused substitute in Mannheim, Germany, where the Azzurri’s Federico Dimarco netted a double to deny the Young Lions a place in the final of the competition.

England pushed forward, particularly in the second period, registering a total of 21 shots on goal to Italy’s eight.

Aidy Boothroyd’s side managed to halve the two-goal deficit with five minutes remaining when Alberto Picchi’s converted into his own net - but the Italians held on for victory.

Callum Connolly, who was withdrawn from the squad after picking up an injury in England’s opener against France, Kenny and Ledson had helped England to top spot in their group after three wins from three.
