Trio Heading To Under-19 Euros

Everton trio Callum Connolly, Ryan Ledson and Jonjoe Kenny have been named in the England Under-19s squad for the upcoming European Championships in Germany.

Coach Aidy Boothroyd has selected an 18-man group for the tournament following three separate training camps at St. George’s Park in recent weeks and a two-game tour to Mexico in June.

The squad will meet on Friday to travel to Germany ahead of their Group B opener with France in Heidenheim on Tuesday 12 July. Also in England’s group are Croatia and the Netherlands.

Should the Young Lions finish in the top two, they will progress to the semi-finals and meet one of the nations from Group A – hosts Germany, Italy, Austria or Portugal.

The prospect of playing in the European Championships has meant that the three Blues have had to maintain their sharpness throughout the summer break and Connolly said: “It was great experience to go out to the training camp in Mexico last month and play at a high altitude.

“It was a good two games and that is only going to help leading into the tournament.”

Ledson and Kenny travel to Germany with previous tournament experience, having been part of the England squad that won the Under-17s European Championships two years ago.
