Stones And Barkley Feature In England Win

John Stones and Ross Barkley both featured as England recorded a 2-1 victory over Australia in Sunderland on Friday evening.

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring inside three minutes before Wayne Rooney added a second 10 minutes after the half-time interval.

Substitute Eric Dier then diverted into his own net with 15 minutes remaining, but the Three Lions held on to record a win.

Stones completed the full 90 minutes, while Barkley came off the bench to replace goalscorer Rashford in the 63rd minute.

It was the last chance for the Blues duo to impress before boss Hodgson selects his final 23-man squad for next month’s Euro 2016 tournament in France.

Meanwhile, in Dublin, Seamus Coleman completed the full game and Darron Gibson was introduced as a 67th-minute substitute as the Republic of Ireland were held to a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands.

Former Toffees centre-back Shane Duffy also played 90 minutes.

Shane Long’s opener looked to have secured a win for Martin O’Neill’s side, but Luuk De Jong headed home to restore parity in the dying minutes.

Later this evening, Bryan Oviedo could feature in Costa Rica’s clash with Venezuela, while Ramiro Funes Mori is part of the Argentina squad to face Honduras. Check back later to see how the pair fared.
