Kenny Wins Promotion With Oxford

The conclusion of the regular Football League season saw several Everton starlets end their respective loan spells across the country.

It was a pleasing Saturday afternoon for youngster Jonjoe Kenny, who helped Oxford United seal promotion out of League Two.

Three second-half goals got the win needed against Wycombe Wanderers, meaning the U’s finished the campaign as runners-up behind Northampton Town.

Also in League Two, Ryan Ledson played in Cambridge United’s scoreless draw at Mansfield, while Liam Walsh was unlucky to taste defeat in Yeovil Town’s 1-0 home reverse to Leyton Orient. Cambridge finish the season just outside the play-offs in ninth and Yeovil end up in 19th position.

Luke Garbutt’s time in the Championship with Fulham also ended on a positive note - he came off the bench to play the last quarter of an hour in the Cottagers’ 1-0 victory over relegated Bolton Wanderers.

Also in the second tier, Aiden McGeady was involved for 90 minutes as Sheffield Wednesday were beaten 2-1 away at Wolves. The Republic of Ireland international and his Owls teammates must now ready themselves for the play-offs, where they will play Brighton & Hove Albion over two legs.

In League One, Conor McAleny was an unused substitute for Wigan Athletic, whose title celebrations were tainted by a 4-1 home defeat to Barnsley. The Latics were already assured of the trophy before the game.

Meanwhile, over in Switzerland’s top division, Shani Tarashaj was introduced as a 66th-minute substitute in Grasshoppers’ 1-0 win at bottom-placed Lugano.
