Dallas Diary - Day Five

Beni Baningime is the latest Under-18s player to report from the Dallas Cup. Everton need to beat Real Salt Lake on Wednesday to qualify for the semi-finals - and the team skipper is relishing the task ahead.

Kevin Sheedy told me a week ago that I would be captaining the team - and I was quite surprised to find out.

I’m not normally one to talk much or be vocal around the players as I try to concentrate on my football, but I’m starting to adapt to it all.

Kevin said that I was playing alright and leading by example by working hard, so that was nice to hear.

It won’t be easy on Wednesday because Real Salt Lake have won two out of two.

I was speaking to Jevo about the game he was explaining how they are a compact, well-organised team. It will be a challenge to try and break them down but hopefully we can score the goals we need to get through.

We’ll have to try and get Broady into the game so he can create chances for Delial who has been a handful for the defenders we have faced so far in this tournament.

The last game, I thought it was the best I have ever seen him play. He took his goal well at a time when we really needed it. We were going out if he hadn’t scored.

Hopefully he can play like that again on Wednesday because the match is a decider. Either we go through to the semi-finals or we spend the rest of the trip playing friendlies and training.
