Tim Howard is an injury doubt ahead of Everton’s home Premier League clash with Newcastle United.
The American suffered a knee problem in training and will be monitored in the lead-up to Wednesday evening’s clash at Goodison.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, manager Roberto Martinez said: “We are going to assess Tim. He had a knock in training yesterday.
“We had a scan and it didn’t look too bad but we will see what the situation is with him before the game tomorrow.”
Should Howard not be fit to face the Magpies, Joel Robles will continue in goal having played in the two previous cup matches against Manchester City and Carlisle United.
Martinez reported no other fresh injury concerns from Sunday’s trip to Brunton Park.
Kevin Mirallas is unlikely to have recovered from his tendon problem in time to face Steve McClaren’s side, while Muhamed Besic is definitely out due to a hamstring injury.
Both players have missed the last two matches after being forced off early in the previous home fixture against Swansea City.
The manager added: “Kevin will have a couple of sessions to be reassessed. He will have a fitness test, even though it seems unlikely he will be fit to play. He hasn’t joined the group yet and is probably two or three days away.
“Mo is going to be out for a couple of weeks.”
