What The Papers Say - 28 January

Thursday’s newspapers contain reaction to last night’s Capital One Cup semi-final second leg at the Etihad Stadium.

There are match reports in all the national newspapers, including the Daily Mail, Daily Mirror and Daily Star.

Roberto Martinez explains to the Daily Express and Daily Telegraph that Manchester City’s second goal on the night, which should have been disallowed, cost Everton the chance of making it through to the final.

With Everton leading the tie on aggregate at that point, the match officials failed to spot that Raheem Sterling had ran the ball over the line in the build-up to Kevin De Bruyne’s goal.

There is more analysis of the second leg in the Liverpool Echo.

And in the Echo’s player ratings, Ross Barkley top scored for the Blues after his goalscoring display was rated at 8/10.
