Roberto Martinez says he is delighted with the way Mason Holgate has settled into life at Everton.
The 18-year-old joined the Blues from Barnsley last month having impressed for the League One Tykes since his debut last December.
Holgate made his first appearance in royal blue in Everton Under-21s' 3-3 mini-derby draw at the Merseyrail Community Stadium and was subsequently named on the first-team bench for the Capital One Cup outing against his former employers.
The defender was also involved in the Under-21s' 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Monday and Martinez said: “In the mini-derby, I felt that he was himself and I thought he showed what he can be.
“But I always measure the personality of a young player when he starts his first week and it was terrific to see him walk into the dressing room and be able to be himself and train in the manner that he did.
“He’s only 18, he’s a very talented defender and I can see a fantastic future for him at Everton."
