Roberto Martinez says John Stones will be ready to play against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend and is fully focused on winning football games for Everton.
The manager was speaking at his Friday media briefing, where he explained that the England defender was in the right frame of mind to line up at White Hart Lane on Saturday evening.
Martinez explained that Stones is now ‘looking forward’ to his next fixture after what had been an ‘emotional’ period for the centre-half.
Martinez said: “He is in the the perfect environment and at the right football club.
“The fans at one point thought they were going to lose one of their most loved assets. Emotions are going to be high - you are going to be full of feelings that are going to show.
“John knows where he is and the fans are going to play an incredible role in settling in and getting his focus on winning football games for Everton.
“We are the perfect environment and the perfect place, as we have in the last two seasons for John. We need to be a winning team and be delighted that we have John with us.
“John will be an incredible part of that process and we are all excited. John is looking forward to the next game now.”
Stones is likely to be joined in defence against Tottenham by Bryan Oviedo after Martinez confirmed that Brendan Galloway is again doubtful for the trip to White Hart Lane.
Costa Rican Oviedo made his first start of the campaign against Barnsley in midweek, lining up at left-back.
Galloway missed the game due to the knee injury sustained against Manchester City last weekend.
“I was really happy with the reaction from Bryan, to be able to play through 90 minutes and then the extra-time,” Martinez said.
“It was a real positive and an even bigger positive was the way he was in the morning. He trained and looked fully recovered.
“Clearly, we can see that Bryan has got that match fitness and he is going to be ready for a very interesting season from his point of view.
“Brendan Galloway will be the only one who's a doubt to be included in the squad.”
