Martinez Expects Close Encounter

Welcome, Marco!

Everything you need to know about the new boss here.

Everton against Manchester City has always yielded exciting games – and Roberto Martinez believes Sunday will be no different.

The Blues have traded results with the Citizens over the years in close, evenly contested games.

However, Everton have not beaten City since March 2013 and Martinez is eager to reverse that trend on Sunday.

But after City’s heavy defeat of Chelsea in their previous outing, the Blues boss recognises that his side will need to be at their best to pick up all three points.

However Martinez is relishing the challenge. “It is not a big secret that Manchester City are the team in form,” he said.

“The way they have started the campaign is impressive and I don’t think they have had to go into second gear yet. They have been improved by the new signings and we have seen the best of a team that have been together for a long time now.

“But we are looking forward to it. Every time we have been facing Manchester City they have been close games, games that have seen a lot of character and good play. I don’t think it will be anything different on Sunday.”
