Mason Holgate says he is relishing life as an Everton player after making his Under-21s debut in the dramatic 3-3 draw with Liverpool on Wednesday.
The Blues’ latest recruit played the full 90 minutes as David Unsworth’s side hit back to earn a point after falling 3-0 behind to the Reds inside 36 minutes.
Speaking after the game, the former Barnsley defender explained his delight at an improved second-half performance at the Merseyrail Community Stadium.
He said: “It was very eventful. Obviously it was a slow start but I think everyone showed good character by coming back and showing everyone what we can do in the second half.
“We felt like we could have done better for the goals, but it didn’t affect us and we came back stronger.
“We always looked like pushing on in the second half and maybe could have even won it at the end.”
Holgate admits it has been a week of finding his feet in his new surroundings at Finch Farm and around the city.
But the 18-year-old also thanked Unsworth and his teammates for helping him settle in as quickly as possible.
“It’s been a good first week,” he added. “I still keep getting lost! But I’ve really enjoyed it and I’m just trying to get used to things here.
“All the lads have been good in terms of showing me around and they’ve took me in well.
“I’ve only been here a week but David Unsworth has also helped me a lot already as well. He’s a good coach and it's been really good to work with him.”
