Cleverley Gunning For Final Success

Pre-season or not, Tom Cleverley insists Everton are delighted to be in a final, after defeating Stoke City in the Barclays Asia Trophy.

The midfielder himself was one of five Blues to slot home their penalty in the shootout after a goalless 90 minutes against the Potters.

It means Everton will now face Arsenal, who made the final themselves after a 4-0 win over a Singapore Select XI.

And Cleverley is delighted to be in with a chance of early silverware, after a tough first outing in the humid conditions in Singapore.

“It's great to be in the final,” he told evertontv. “Any tournament you enter you want to be in the final.

“We're happy, we had the better chances in the 90 minutes – although it was hard work out there because of the heat.

“I thought we deserved to win in the end.”

The trip to Singapore has been hugely beneficial for Cleverley as he gets to know his new teammates following his summer switch to Everton, and winning matches certainly helps.

Another victory on Saturday against the Gunners will round off a positive early few weeks for the 25-year-old in his new surroundings.

“It's going really well,” he added. “The guys here are a really good set of lads. They've made me feel so comfortable. I knew a few of them before and I'm excited to play for such a good club.

“A win on Saturday at Swindon, and a win on penalties against Stoke means it’s been a good start.

“It will be a fantastic final on Saturday and both teams will want to win - but hopefully I can get them back after what happened in the FA Cup final!”
