Everton Under-21s officially get their pre-season schedule underway when they travel to Burscough FC on Wednesday evening.
The young Blues recently completed a week-long warm weather training camp in Austria, culminating in a 1-0 practice match win against Austrian third division side Atsv Stadl-Paura.
David Unsworth’s side now face a trip to Victoria Park - and defender Callum Connolly, who yesterday signed a two-year professional contract with the Club, says the group is eagerly anticipating getting back on the pitch after a period of gruelling fitness work in the Alps.
“I can’t wait to play again,” he told evertonfc.com. “We’re still in pre-season, so we’re still putting lots of hard work in to be ready for the first game of the competitive season.
“The facilities in Austria were excellent. You couldn’t fault the training pitches and the gym out there - and that certainly helped us. The work was very difficult, but it was nothing we can’t handle and I’ve enjoyed pre-season so far.
“It’s great to get away to different countries with the lads because there’s is a really close bond between everyone in the group. We want to do well for each other this season and we’re working hard to get our fitness levels up and to keep improving.”
Supporters wishing to attend the fixture against Burscough can pay on the door, with admission priced at £5 for adults and free entry for children.
