What The Papers Say - 4 July

Saturday's Liverpool Echo claims Everton are planning to hold contract talks with midfielder Darron Gibson later this summer.

The 27-year-old Republic of Ireland international has only one-year left on his existing deal and the paper expect discussions to begin over new terms once Roberto Martinez has completed the "bulk" of his summer transfer activity.

The Echo also suggest the Club are "increasingly hopeful" out-of-contract striker Chris Long will soon sign a new deal and follow in the footsteps of fellow Academy graduate Conor Grant, the midfielder who yesterday agreed a one-year extension to his stay at Goodison Park.

Another youngster, Callum Connolly, is quoted in the Echo on how he allowed himself just a three-week break this summer in a bid to get as much football in as possible for both Everton and England, while the news that five of the Blues' opening seven Premier League fixtures have been moved for live television broadcast is also reported.
