Everton Under-21s will enter both the Liverpool and Lancashire Senior Cups in a bid to boost their 2015/16 fixture list.
The young Blues went up to four weeks without action on several occasions last term, such was the scheduling of the Under-21 Premier League and its two cup competitions.
As a result, head coach David Unsworth has made the decision that his side will also take part in the two regional tournaments.
It will be Everton’s first involvement in the Lancashire Senior Cup since the 1973/74 campaign.
Unsworth said: "There are not enough games at Under-21 level so we’ll be in the Liverpool Senior Cup again this season and also enter the Lancashire Senior Cup.”
One plus point for Unsworth in the 2014/15 fixture calendar was the addition of the Premier League International Cup - in which the Toffees faced competition from outside of their domestic division.
The competition will return this term and, along with the Under-21 Premier League Cup, it will supplement the 22 league fixtures on the horizon for Unsworth’s squad.
“The Premier League International Cup was a great tournament for us last year and they will structure it for the start of the season,” he added.
“The games with Celtic and Villarreal were great games for us.
“I am really keen for the lads to have as many competitive matches as possible and we want an edge in all our games.”
