Phil Jagielka’s stunning Merseyside derby strike has been voted Everton fans' Goal of the Season.
The captain’s unforgettable injury-time equaliser at Anfield in September, smashed into the top corner at the Kop End net, was an overwhelming winner
Evertonians worldwide took to Twitter on the evening to select their favourite from a shortlist that also included Kevin Mirallas’ solo effort at White Hart Lane and Ross Barkley’s arrowing drive in the home victory over Queens Park Rangers.
The trio of contenders had been whittled down following a poll on evertonfc.com, where supporters were invited to pick their top three from a list of 10 selected by Everton’s post-war leading goalscorer Graeme Sharp.
Jagielka’s sizzling half-volley, which secured a 1-1 draw for the Toffees, will simply be remembered as one of the best goals scored in a Merseyside derby.
On the evening, the strike pulled in 91 per cent of all votes.
The skipper, who was handed his prize at the St George’s Hall by teammate Tim Howard and Club Ambassador Graham Stuart, said: “You may not have been able to tell it from the celebration but I was ecstatic inside - I was surprised as anyone else!
"Obviously it's a goal that I'm proud of and to score against Liverpool at the Kop End makes it even more special."
The 2014/15 Goal of the Season Award was sponsored by StreamUK.
